[Parenting Chronicles] 13 Hours of Endurance

My anxiety had actually reared its head two weeks before we even left.
One look at my shopping cart filled with all sorts of "baby busy toys," plus my YouTube watch history stacked high with "flying with a baby vlogs," and you’d get the full picture. Faced with a 13-hour transpacific flight, us parents were on high alert, bracing for impact.
The Outbound Flight: Overprepared yet Overwhelmed
The baby slept for about six hours on and off. The remaining seven hours? Pure solo stage performance. He was bouncing up and down in his seat, cheerfully greeting passengers all around us, munching through snack after snack, and repeatedly slapping the glowing in-flight screen with excitement... not to mention constantly collapsing onto us for comfort pats.
Every single busy toy we packed took its turn on stage, but eventually, he grew tired of them all. Then came the off-and-on crying and tantrums. At that point, our internal monologue was just one constant loop: "Are we there yet...? This is absolute torture!"
The Return Flight: The Ultimate Challenge with a Newly Walking Toddler
We thought having one leg of the journey under our belts would make the return trip easier, but the anxiety level was still off the charts. By now, the baby had learned to walk. Pacing up and down the aisle were not just those little feet, but also Dad’s tired legs, carrying a crying baby who refused to sleep, walking back and forth endlessly.
To make matters worse, the baby had caught a little bug, sending the soothing difficulty straight to max level. We were completely numb, brain-fogged, and utterly exhausted. Total sleep for him was still a wildly fragmented five to six hours. Ironically, because we were way too busy coping with the baby, the pressure of "what everyone else thinks"—usually our biggest worry—actually dropped to an all-time low. We simply had no bandwidth left to care.
✈️ Post-Flight Verdict: Unless it is absolutely necessary, please do not attempt long-haul flights with toddlers. This isn't travel; it is the ultimate test of parental stamina and willpower!
